The Dakota Chamber Orchestra opens the 2009-2010 season with a guest concert on the B.J. Haan Auditorium stage. Guest conductor Darryl One enjoys a wide and varied career as a professional conductor, encompassing a broad scope of repertoire and concert formats throughout the United States. One will lead the orchestra in a spirited performance of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Susan Gray as soloist, along with works by Wagner and Prokofiev.



Fall Concert - Tuesday, November 17

Guest Artist - Uriel Tsachor, Piano
Guest Conductor - Christopher Stanichar

Composer and conductor Christopher Stanichar leads NISO in its first performance of the season. The concert begins with Stanichar's sublime Sunflowers, followed by the substantial Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1, a noteworthy showpiece performed impressively by pianist Uriel Tsachor. The inspirational Borodin Symphony No. 2 concludes the remainder of the concert.

Jazz meets the symphony orchestra when Chris Vadala comes to town. One of the country's foremost woodwind artists, Chris is in demand as a jazz/classical performer and educator. He will perform works by Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, and Chuck Mangione with NISO, and he will also solo with our guest Jazz Bands from Dordt College and Northwestern College.

Impressive works by noteworthy composers Bernstein, Beethoven, and Saint-Saens come together in the culminating NISO concert for the season. Bernsteins' lively 'Candide' Overture will open the concert, followed by a spectacular performance of the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No. 3 by violinist Jessica Mathaes. Symphony No. 5, perhaps the best-loved of all Beethoven's symphonies, will bring the concert to a stunning close.
