The 2007-2008 season of the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra opens with the brilliant brass Fanfare from ‘La Peri.’ Virtuoso flutist, Martha Councell, will favor the audience with a flute concerto by Karl Stamitz and the orchestra will then perform Enesco’s exciting Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1. Mendelssohn is the featured composer for the first masterwork of the season, his Symphony No. 5 (Reformation), based on Martin Luther’s great hymn tune, Ein Feste Burg.

One of the finest college orchestras in the country returns to northwest Iowa on January 31. Conductor Steve Amundson continues to challenge the 90 members of his the ST. OLAF ORCHESTRA by programming extremely challenging repertoire. The orchestra always amazes our audiences with its musicianship and technique.

Harmony will reign supreme when the International Champion Barbershop Quartet, The Realtime Quartet from Vancouver, will join the orchestra for an evening of great classical, folk, and popular tunes, all knit together with splendid harmony.

Music of three of the 19th century’s best-known composers will be performed on April 19: the monumental Egmont Overture by Beethoven; Tchaikovsky’s showpiece, Variations on a Rococo Theme, featuring our own principal cellist, Maxim Kozlov; and Saint-Saëns’ unforgettable Organ Symphony with organist, Robert Horton.

Returning for a third year of bonus concerts with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the EUCLID QUARTET, praised by the Denver Post for their "electric" playing, is a dynamic string quartet known for performances filled with personality and vibrant color.
