update
Things are getting pretty busy in the library which is great. Along with the busyness comes some new items of information that you need to know and some reminders. This message is quite long, sorry.
1. The color laser printer is not meant to do color transparencies (a surprise to us). The printer will make one if you try, but the quality is not what it should be. I will change the instruction sheet by the printer to indicate to students that they if they would like a color transparency they should go over to CL88 (downstairs by computer services) and log onto a computer there and print to the inkjet printer located in that room.
2. When dvd players (portable & regular) are returned, please open them up to make sure that no one has left a dvd in the machine. Please charge the portable dvd players. The plug is on the back on the battery. When the light turns green it is charged.
3. Workflows allows you to put reserve items on hold, but when the items are checked in, the hold is never triggered. Reserve items are meant to be on a first come first serve basis, so don't waste your time putting them on hold, it doesn't work.
4. When you are checking out movies, please be sure to read any notes that may be taped in the inside cover by the barcode. Sometimes I have to reserve a movie in advance for a professor and this is my way of doing that.
5. If you trade a shift with someone, please remember to email me and let me know that. Thanks.
6. The music cd's that are on reserve for Gen 200 are not to leave the library. There is a label on the cd case indicating this, but some of you are missing that.
7. Currently there are two camcorders on reserve for Educ 260. There is a reserve sticker on the white tag so you know which ones are on reserve for that class. We have them set up to check out for just 2 hours.
8. You may have seen announcements around campus for the Prairie Grass Film Challenge that is being held during the Heartland break. There may be some students who want to reserve a camcorder in advance for this. As you know there is no way you can do this. Please have the students email me if there are wanting a camcorder for this challenge and I will make arrangements with them.
9. When checking out reserves overnight, please tell the patrons that the item is due back at 8am the next morning. I know that if you choose the alt circulation rule of overnight it will make it due at 9am on the computer, but we want it back at 8am.
If the reserve item is a three day check out and you try to check it out during the last hour that we are open for the day, then choose the alt circulation rule option of 3 days.
10. Through out the year when the blood drive sign up is going on, we keep some of their materials on the hold shelf as a pick up point for the students working with the drive. So if someone comes asking for the blood drive stuff, look for it on the hold shelf.
11. You may notice a different dvd/vhs player on my desk for Dordt TV. You may see some more switching around as we try to figure out what is wrong with one of the machines.
12. One of the camcorders now has a note on it indicating that it works fine, however if you try to play back what you recorded you will not hear the sound. You will need a pair of headphones to hear what you recorded or if you hook it up to a tv, you can hear what you recorded.
FYI: we are purchasing two more digital camcorders. I will let you know when they arrive and are available for check out.
13. HORRAY!! You made it to the end of this message. Have a great weekend.
