Dordt
College Concert Band 2012-2013
Mission
The
members of the Dordt College Concert Band are dedicated to honoring the Creator
of all music through the skillful performance of the finest instrumental music.
God has given all of us resources, talents, and most importantly, TIME
to glorify Him. In every rehearsal,
in every performance, in every interaction we have with each other, God calls
us to use what He has given us as an offering of praise back to Him. When we work for excellence and for
achieving something of beauty, we are using the gifts God has given us to bring
restoration to a fallen world.
Expectations
The
Dordt College Concert Band exists for the purpose of fulfilling a high calling
in the area of performance of instrumental musical masterworks. The primary by-product of our
faithfulness to our calling is the excellence evident at each rehearsal and
concert. Each student is a vital part
of the body of Concert Band, with each studentŐs contributions being essential
to our success. To that end, our goal
is to have 100% of the members in attendance at 100% of the rehearsals and
concerts.
Attendance:
Your
attendance is required at all rehearsals and performances. If an excused absence is needed for any
unavoidable reason, such as illness, family emergency, or a field trip required
by another professor, notify Mr. Miedema by phone or
by e-mail as far in advance as possible.
All missed rehearsal time must be made up with individual practice. Any unexcused absences may negatively
affect renewal of scholarships and retention in the ensemble. Members of Dordt College athletic teams
must complete a contractual agreement at the beginning of each semester of
sports involvement. See Mr. Miedema for details.
Participation:
Be
in your seat, with your instrument, folder, and a sharpened pencil, at least 5
minutes prior to the scheduled rehearsal time. Spend time warming up on your own so
that you are mentally and physically prepared to make music with the rest of
the ensemble. Percussionists are expected
to have all necessary equipment required for rehearsal set up in advance,
including for any dress rehearsals on the BJ Haan
Auditorium stage.
