Constitution of the Dordt
College
Pre-Physical Therapy Club
I.
Name
This organization shall be called the Pre-Physical Therapy
club. This name will ensure proper identification as to the purpose of
the club by both non-club members and physical therapy admissions committees
II.
Purpose
The purposes of the Pre-Physical Therapy club shall be to:
1) inform its members about the physical therapy school admissions procedure
through GRE review sessions, mock interviews, tutorial support, and physical
therapy networking; 2) encourage its members to strive for excellence in
undergraduate work; 3) prepare its members to be influential Christian leaders
amongst the ranks of the physical therapy profession.
III.
Officers
The Pre-Physical Therapy club will not have traditional
officer roles as many clubs choose to do. Rather, the leadership of the
club will be delegated to an executive committee representing the make up of
the Pre-Physical Therapy club as a whole. See Article IV for further
description.
IV.
Executive Board
The
Executive Board of the Pre-Physical Therapy club shall consist of students that
represent the make up of the entire club. New members of the board shall
be nominated and elected by the Executive Board of the previous academic
year. Club members are encouraged to submit names to the Executive Board
for consideration for nomination. The Executive Board will consist of
five Dordt College students (two seniors and one representative from the
freshman, sophomore, & junior class), in conjunction with all faculty or
pre-physical therapy advisors. The senior members of the Executive
Committee shall serve as co-chairpersons of the Executive Committee. The
Executive Board will appoint one of its members to act as Treasurer for the
club. The term of this position will be one academic year with the option
for reappointment the following year.
V.
Voting
Formal voting will occur mostly within the Executive
Board. However, if a matter arises which necessitates voting by the entire
club (i.e. matters of the Constitution, monetary expenditures and collections,
and other matters deemed necessary) each active member will be allowed one
vote. Voting will take place in a standard parliamentary fashion to
ensure objectivity. Members of the Pre-Physical Therapy club that wish to
challenge the decision of the Executive Board are encouraged to submit a
written statement with signatures from five club members to the Executive Board
stating their position and request for a vote of the entire club. The
Executive Board, by rule of this Constitution, is obligated to bring this
request to the entire club for discussion and vote. A majority vote by
the club on the challenge shall be final.
VI.
Removal from Executive Board
Any member of
the Executive Board may be removed from their position by vote of all club
members. A reason for removal must be submitted to the Executive Board
for consideration, along with the signatures of ten active club members.
The request for removal will be discussed by the Executive Board, in absence of
the member in question, as to the validity and strength of its reasoning.
The Executive Board will then vote as to whether or not the matter will be
presented to the club as a whole. An affirmative majority vote by the
members of the Executive Board shall send the matter to the entire club for
discussion and vote. A 2/3 majority affirmative vote by members present
is then required to remove the Board member. The decision of the club in
this matter is final.
VII.
Amendments
Amendments may be made to this Constitution by first submitting a written
proposal with the signatures of five active club members to the Executive
Board. The Executive Board, by virtue of this Constitution, is required
to present the proposal to the entire club for discussion. The proposed
amendment must be read at two different meetings with voting to take place
after the second reading. In order to adopt the proposed amendment, a 2/3
affirmative vote is required.
