REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Every year, Americans throw away 16 billion disposable diapers,  1.6 billion pens, 2 billion razors and razor blades, and 220 million tires.  We discard enough aluminum to rebuild the entire US commercial airline fleet every three months.v

Where is all this waste going?  It does not disappear.  After all, there is no "away."  Instead, most of our garbage ends up in landfills.  But how long can we keep this up?  Landfills are filling up, and many have already closed. We could devote land to new ones.  Unfortunately, many of the affluent have NIMBY syndrome ("not in my back yard"), and the poor are receiving the brunt of our selfishness.

We need another option. It is time to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This may require a little bit of your time and thoughts.  But in the end, Dordt's recycling program is really quite easy to use.  With the information provided on this site or on the nearest recycling bin, you should be able to find all of the help you need.

At this time, Dordt’s recycling program might not be as good as it should be.  However, Dordt is in the process of trying to further improve the program. Please keep this in mind, and stay alert for changes in the near future.
